Weekly Inspiration - Blake Mycoskie

We decided we wanted to feature someone who has inspired us every week on our blog. Inspiration is extremely important to us. As we mentioned in one of our earlier posts, reading ‘Start Something that Matters’ gave us the final push we needed to put our plans into action. It’s written by Blake Mycoskie, the man who started TOMS shoes, the first one-for-one business ever created.

I first heard of TOMS shoes when I was in college and I fell in love with both the story and the shoe. I’ve purchased several pairs since then, the latest being a leopard print pair! I’m just waiting for warmer weather so I can strut them around town. On a more serious note, I highly recommend the book. It tells a very honest story of how everything started and offers lots of practical advice for people looking to do the same. Blake even set up a website for people interested in following his path. You can just tell how passionate he is about social entrepreneurship. There’s no greed or bragging, it seems like he genuinely wants to help others change the world for the better in any way possible. I was so inspired, my head was just buzzing when I put the book down and I hope if you read it, you’ll feel the same way.

Here’s Blake responding to some criticism. His mentality is definitely something to aspire to.
