Lizzy Yarnold, a 25-year-old British athlete won the gold at this years Winter Olympics and is our inspirational person this week. She was inspired to take up sports after watching Denise Lewis at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and took up skeleton in 2008. Skeleton is a fast paced sliding sport, which involves a person riding on a sled down a frozen track. After just a few years of training, Lizzy became the bronze medalist in the senior World Championships in 2012 and won the gold at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. She is the winner of one of only 10 gold medals in British Winter Olympic history.
In an interview posted by the Daily Mail, Yarnold told them that every night before going to bed she would imagine going down the track but that she “wouldn’t visualise winning, [she] would visualise the process”. Not only has Yarnold been a true inspiration to us, but she also wants to inspire young girls to keep playing sports and to defeat the media image of the perfect women.
You can follow Yarnold on twitter @TheYarnold to see what she is up to.
