How to make your very own almond butter

About a week ago, I was spreading some almond butter onto my toast and my brother comes into the kitchen and started to rant on about how he didn’t like the taste of the store bought almond butter. He said, to be precise “its just a bit bland, I bet I could make it better”. To be quite honest I thought what an effort, it’s easier to just buy it, but he was determined. So when we ran out instead of buying the butter I just bought almonds and we made our very own almond butter. To be honest ours does taste better and it was also a lot cheaper.

It takes about 15 minutes and all you need is almonds and a food processor, it is that easy!

To start, place your almond in the oven a roast them until they become darker and slightly toasty. You don’t have to do this, but it just enhances the taste and lifts the natural oils from the almonds.

Once you take them out let them cool down, once cool place them into your food processor and turn it on. At first it will become almond crumbs, but the more you stir the natural oils will lift and soon become smooth and spreadable, this process will take up to 15 minutes. If you are finding that the consistency is not changing and it is like crunchy butter you can add a little dollop of virgin olive oil to help it, but remember to add with caution. I have also found that some people like theirs will a pinch of salt, but this is only to taste.

Happy spreading!
