En Avant Ballet with Karis Scarlette

I have not done ballet since I was probably about 6 years old, so you can imagine my anticipation when we got invited to a one on one class with our lovely ambassador Karis Scarlette, owner of En Avant Ballet.

The class was done in Rambert Studios, next to Embankment in a beautiful studio at the top of the building where we met Karis, who is an edgy looking ballerina! Throw out your pink tutu - she is totally badass! We started the class with basic movements and focused on learning how to stand properly and all about the different feet positions. We used the barre to help keep our balance in case we needed it. Once we mastered our stance we moved onto leg movements, which involved sliding the foot back and forth or side to side gracefully (I learnt that this is called tendu) . I don’t consider myself particularly graceful, but this was a great start. We then learnt about the arms and what to do with them in conjunction to the legs. Before I knew it, I was dancing like a ballerina! As the class moved on we learnt a key movement for every ballerina: the pirouette, in layman’s terms the jump & spin.

Roshni and I looked like complete lemons prancing around the room, but we had an incredible time. We honestly suggest to anyone, it doesn’t matter if you have never danced in your life, you should take an En Avant Ballet class. Check our her website and book your class now!

Keep pirouetting,

Shaleena & Roshni
